“6 of us fitted well into this house very comfortably. The house is situated in real Crete and as I lived in Platanias 25 years ago when there was only one restaurant and one hotel, this was a quiet and pleasant relief. The house is very nice and well converted having air conditioning that works and is all well decked out . Good for all types of groups of people probably catering slightly more for those that would like it a bit more peaceful when they get home at night ”

A wonderful stay!

5/5
“We knew the area from earlier, but we had never rented a villa before, only stayed in hotels. Villa Aretousa was pefect from day one, with a lovely outdoor area and a stunning view. We were two families, 4 adults and 5 children, and the house had plenty of space for us. We loved the swimming pool, the shadeful barbecue area and the beautiful garden. The owners showed great hospitality from the start, and pick us up at the airport because there was a taxi strike. The proterty was very clean and well taken care of, and we have nothing to complain about. Thanks agian for a wonderful stay, we strongly recommed this house and the area around. We rented a car so we could do some shopping and get around, but you could walk to the beach in about fiften minutes. We hoped to come back to Villa Aretousa soon!”

Wonderful & Magical

5/5
“Two wonderful, peaceful weeks spent at this lovely and relaxing villa. Our hosts Despina & Partner could not have been more helpful but also discreet and considerate. Just 45 mins from the airport - really simple drive, great directions with pictures! The main highway has very little traffic and links the whole of the north coast - very stress free for those who don't relish the thought of driving in abroad. We loved this villa - mix of old (stone walls & quirky little touches inside) and contemporary - decor. Very clean, fresh. The pool and view were fabe and we spent most mornings swimming 50 lengths (10 metres long) and longing by the pool - views of the mountains , sea and small town were great. You are in an elevated position can see villa infront but does not in anyway interfere with the views - the villa below only has one small window that faced our villa and the blind was always closed respecting our privacy. The outside area is simple and lovely - pool and loungers and pool towels changed twice while we were there - flowers, lawns and great outdoor kitchen with oven BBQ etc. We never cooked on it - we used the inside kitchen as there were only 2 of us. Three sides of the house are surrounded by Olive trees as is much of the area. We saw the farmer now and again, probably due to time of year we stayed. Inside is lovely but think part of a holiday is enjoying discovering that for yourself!
Waether was great 29 or 30 most days only one day of rain in 2 wks which we were not expecting as it was so late. Due to this time of year there were people around but not at all busy. It is about 5 mins drive from villa to main road which runs along coast. So you can go right to Tavronitis, Maleme, Platanias, Chania or left to Kolymbari, Kissimos etc. Also you can get onto the highway left or right and get to these locations a bit quicker as the road is faster but parallel. There are no real sandy beaches near locally but you can reach them 15mins either way.
We loved Kolymbari - fishing village, lovely local restaurants all next to each other along sea front, great cafe / cocktail bar on waters edge. We also loved Chania - like a cross between Venice and Morocco! Great atmosphere in old town, fab restaurants, lots of quirky shops, market , port etc.
Beaches - for an amazing drive in mountains and past a Gorge which we stopped to look down into Elafonisi - we only wish we had set off earlier - it takes about 1 hour 15 mins. Hard to describe - lagoon, waters a bit like the Caribbean - you cann walk through lagoon to the island just fantastic! Falasarna - not on Sundays though as all the locals go there and so busy - about 30 drive from villa huge huge sand beach - we went past the 'Big Beach' further on there is sand and snorkling.
The best of all was Balor - we saw the sign on the road on way back from Falasarna - though you could only get there by boat from Kissimos but there is a road - well not quite a road! It\'s an adventure - you need to be brave - mountain edges, you're on a rocky track and nothing on the edges - best hire a jeep for the day - we had a small compact car and drove in first gear the whole 25 mins. But fantastic, spectacular! When you get to the top you park and then walk 2 k down the mountain to the amazing lagoon. There is a taverna where you park the car and some quirky surpirses!! If you\'re not brave take the boat from Kissimos for the day - the views and the beach just out of this world literally!!!
This villa is fab location for mountains and beaches and local places - if you want nightlife you need to drive 15 - 20 mins to the more lively Platanias or Kissimos - if you like bars and food then they are just 5 - 10 mins away.
Can't praise our hosts enough - even when we locked ourselves out - they sorted it out while we were at the beach - all stree free! ”

Stunning views

5/5
“ The Villa was everything we expected and more. The owner is obviously very proud of his properties and having met us on our arrival explained everything to us so that we had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. If you want privacy then this is the place for you. The villa is well apportioned and stocked with all you will need. The BBQ area is particularly nice which was well used during our stay. As the property is off the beaten track in an olive grove, a car is essential and depending on what time of year a 4x4 is probably better. We had a viscious storm whilst we were there(Sept) which left the road to the house very muddy and slippery. All in all a very nice part of the island and a ride into the white mountains is a must. Visit the eco village of Milia on the 9 village drive. Quite a difficult drive but stunning when you get there and also try lunch in Kissamos. The Brights/Fergusons ”

“We were very happy in Villa Clio. The house is perfect with a nice sea-view. Penelope and her family (owners) cared for our needs in a perfect way. It is also great, that the villa is cleaned twice a week. The only negative thing is the fact, that the house of the english neighbours is closer than we thought and that sometimes there was noise until late at night... In summary: a very good location for holidays.”

Great Holiday

5/5
“Spent another fantastic 2 weeks in Athina Villa and enjoyed every minute. Stellios makes you so welcome and the gifts of fresh fruit (and Raki) are the icing on the cake. The villa is exactly as descibed and more, the views are fantastic, and an evening walk into Gavalohori to visit the local tavernas and resturants is the perfect end to your day, although I do recommend a taxi back. If you enjoy a peaceful holiday with fantastic views and a relaxing pool at great value for money then try Athina & Erato villas.”

Comfortable and convenient

4/5
“We stayed for a week in September 2012 and had a thoroughly enjoyable and very relaxing time. Villa Marina is well situated being only ten minutes drive from the gorgeous port of Chania and Galatas village is an easy stroll up hill. Villa was very comfortable and the private pool much appreciated. Not a lot of kitchen equipment for self catering - no microwave or toaster or even saucepans - but we stocked up at the supermarket and enjoyed salad lunches on the sunny terrace. Spent several entertaining evenings at the taverna in Galatas run by the exhuberant Christos - don't miss the live music evening - lovely food, great house wine and very reasonable prices. The wifi was a little hit and miss and the satellite TV only offers BBC World in English. No DVDs in the villa so pack a boxed set or two if you're planning on staying in! There is some traffic noise from the nearby road but it's not intrusive and the convenient location is more than compensation. All in all highly recommended, we'd gladly go back again.”
